Core Materials (Bodyboard Cores)

BPP 1.9 (Beaded Polypropylene)

  • Lightweight, rigid, and highly responsive core.

  • Best suited for warm water conditions.

  • Offers excellent projection and durability.

  • Ideal for experienced riders and powerful waves.

EFC / D12 / NRG Core (Expanded Polypropylene)

  • Slightly more flexible than BPP, with better impact absorption.

  • Great for temperate water and riders who prefer a bit more flex.

  • Provides a smoother, more forgiving feel in turns and transitions.

PE Core (Polyethylene)

  • Classic and softer core, ideal for cold water.

  • Offers comfort, high control, and a forgiving ride.

  • Perfect for beginners to intermediate riders or those who value flex.

Structural Reinforcements

Stringer

  • Internal rod made of carbon, fiberglass, or composite.

  • Enhances stiffness, flex memory, and board durability.

  • Common setups:

    • Single Stringer – balanced and versatile.

    • Double/Triple Stringer – added strength for big waves or heavier riders.

Mesh

  • Plastic mesh layer between the core and slick.

  • Distributes pressure across the board, increasing recoil and longevity.

  • Often paired with Surlyn slicks for premium performance.

Nose Bulbs

  • Contoured or raised grips near the nose.

  • Improve grip and control during take-offs or grabs

Slick Bottom Materials

Surlyn Slick

  • High-performance bottom made from DuPont Surlyn.

  • Flexible, durable, and highly reactive to wave energy.

  • Offers better projection and longevity – the choice for pro riders.

HDPE Slick (High-Density Polyethylene)

  • More affordable and durable option.

  • Slightly stiffer and heavier than Surlyn.

  • Great riders who prefer stiffer boards.

Deck & Control Features

Contours

  • Molded lines and grooves on the deck.

  • Improve grip, arm placement, and body alignment.

  • Increase control during maneuvers.

Channel Systems (Bottom Channels)

Standard Channels

  • Twin grooves on the bottom that increase hold and drive on the wave face.

  • Standard configuration for added control.

Quad Channels

  • Four channels (two per rail).

  • Provide maximum control and grip in steep or powerful conditions.

Quad Concave

  • Concave system with deep central and lateral grooves.

  • Boosts speed, lift, and control – ideal for high-performance riding.

Tail Shapes

Crescent Tail

  • Curved tail designed for control and rail hold.

  • Best for prone riders or riders seeking stability.

Bat Tail

  • Wider and more angular shape.

  • Increases lift and speed, excellent for maneuverability.

Flat Tail

  • Flat and square tail offering more surface area.

  • Gives extra maneuverability, especially useful in mushy or small waves.

V-Tail

  • V-shaped notch at the tail.

  • Provides a mix of control and looseness.

  • Versatile for both prone and dropknee.

Fish Tail

  • Wide tail similar to surfboards.

  • Offers high speed, lift, and a looser feel – best for free-flowing styles.
